Harry Reid: “Let me say I have been working in recent hours with the Senator from Washington, Ms. Cantwell. She has worked tirelessly…”

On the recordNovember 14, 2002
Let me say I have been working in recent hours with the Senator from Washington, Ms. Cantwell. She has worked tirelessly on this piece of legislation. She has given a number of statements on the floor related to this issue, dealing with what has taken place and what she knows regarding identity theft. I commend and applaud her for her diligence and perseverance. The burden is now on the House of Representatives. They are still in session. There is no reason in the world that they cannot pass this most important piece of legislation.

Get rid of the filibuster. It’s nothing. As Barack Obama said at John Lewis’ funeral, it’s part of the leftovers from the days of slave owners. You have got to get rid of it. It’s very bad.
