In Reno, NV, yesterday, a friend of mine, Chuck Weller, was shot in the chest. He is a family court judge. We have in Nevada district court judges that do everything but domestic relations and child custody and that kind of thing, which the family court judges like Judge Weller do. He was working at his desk and somebody shot him in the chest through a window. His condition has been recently changed from critical to serious. We think he is going to be OK. This is a real tragedy for our system of justice. They have not apprehended the man who shot him. They believe they know who did it. We don't know if the man has killed anyone else, but it is a real tragedy. Judge Weller is a person who does his very best to be fair and reasonable to those people who appear before him. When you deal with child custody matters, support matters, they are very personal, and a judge has a difficult time because there are intense feelings involved in divorce and child custody. I am really concerned about his wife, Rosa Maria, and their two daughters. They face difficult days ahead. Everyone in Nevada is grateful for Judge Weller's public service, and we stand with the family during these difficult days. I think of the men and women in law enforcement in Nevada and around this country; they are the finest that we have. They are the ultimate first responders. I am confident that they will bring Judge Weller's attempted assassin to justice and in the process restore peace to the Reno community.…
