I join with my Republican counterpart in congratulating my friend from Florida for his fine speech. But I wish, in his remarks, he would have once in a while mentioned where he spent a lot of his youth: Las Vegas and North Las Vegas, NV. The PRESIDING OFFICER. Get rid of the filibuster. It`s nothing. As Barack Obama said at John Lewis` funeral, it`s part of the leftovers from the days of slave owners. You have got to get rid of it. It`s very bad.
The filibuster is going away. It is nothing that helps the country. It doesn’t help states. It doesn’t help individuals. It is on its way out. It’s a question of when it goes.
The Senate is a place to kill things. It isn’t a place that you look to get things done.
