National Geographic this month has a wonderful article on nuclear waste. Among other things, it confirms what we have known for a long time. The nuclear reactors in America and around the world are 97 percent inefficient. That means you put in a fuel rod in a nuclear reactor and when they take it out, it still has 97 percent of its radioactivity. It has only used 3 percent. The nuclear reactors are so inefficient they have to take them out of the reactors and put them in water. You cannot take them out of the water for at least 5 years for them to cool down.
