the purpose of this--and I have had meetings with Senator McConnell--is that we are each going to have a piece of legislation to hold the sequester from kicking in, and this is the easiest way to do it without a lot of procedural motions, and I appreciate everyone's cooperation in that regard. ____________________

The filibuster is nondemocratic. It has been used to the disarray of the Congress. And, certainly, it hasn’t been anything that has helped -- been helpful to the American people. It’s got to go.
You cannot have a democracy that record 60 percent of the vote on everything. And that’s what the Republicans have done. They have made a mockery of what the Senate should be.
The country is better off having a real democracy, not a fake democracy. Sixty percent is not a democracy.
Get rid of the filibuster. It’s nothing. As Barack Obama said at John Lewis’ funeral, it’s part of the leftovers from the days of slave owners. You have got to get rid of it. It’s very bad.
