“I say to my friend, I have no authority. I am dealing with five Senators who are all Senators in their own right. I am here just trying to help a little and take phone calls from them, things of that nature. Some of them, frankly, are out doing other things tonight. We could not agree to that. The Democratic leader, with whom I spoke just a few minutes ago, indicates he thinks, and I would acknowledge he is probably right in this regard, about as far as we can go tonight is lay Cantwell down, get a time agreement on hers. Maybe during--not maybe, but during the morning hours when she is debating hers, we would be able to try to come up with a list of amendments. But any one of these Senators can object to a finite list. I just don't see anything happening in the next few hours.”
