again I would like to stand in support of the rule on this bill for both the Bandelier National Monument expansion and also the Route 66 designation. And, Mr. Speaker, you are aware that in America there are a number of symbols in our Nation that unite us as a people. We have the Statue of Liberty, we have the monuments here in Washington, D.C., but there is a symbol that the gentlewoman from New Mexico (Mrs. Wilson) has identified for us, the symbol of Route 66 that stretches from my hometown, Chicago, through my new home state, New Mexico, and on into California, and again during the years of the Depression and many times strong relationships and ties were built during that era for our people, and part of our national heritage is identified by that defining point in our history. And, as I stated earlier, the song by Woody Guthrie talks about this land is your land, this land is my land, from California to the New York islands, from the redwood forests, to the Gulf stream waters, this land is made for you and me. And the Route 66 embodies that symbol and unites all Americans.
