I thank the Senator. He knows, because he has served so many years, how important it is to have good staff. I want to make sure we get them thanked here. I appreciate that. Implementation of this law is going to be extremely important. As the ranking member on the Appropriations Committee with jurisdiction over EPA, I will remain very involved in ensuring that this law gets implemented well. Finally, I also recognize all the great advocates for reform who pushed Congress to act and kept pushing until we did act. Of course, I need to start by thanking the Environmental Defense Fund. In particular, Fred Krupp and his staff, Richard Denison, Joanna Slaney, and Jack Pratt. Let me also thank Dr. Lynn Goldman, the dean of Public Health at George Washington University, and the good advocates at Moms Clean Air Force, the Humane Society, the National Wildlife Federation, the March of Dimes, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the Building Trades, the American Association of Justice, and so many others. They reminded us that we are working for reform that would improve the lives of countless mothers, fathers, and children. From New Mexico to Michigan, from California to Maine, they reminded us that the American people need a working chemical safety program. I know there are many other groups in the environmental and public health community that took a different approach to our bill.…
