We are committed to reducing the error rate, but New Mexicans deserve to know that the biggest threat to their food assistance isn’t an error rate — it’s a federal law written to make these programs harder to administer and easier to cut.

This is a stunning failure by the federal government.

When someone is a danger to themselves or others because of mental illness, addiction — or far too often both — we need the legal tools to keep communities safe and get New Mexicans the help they need, and the respect they deserve.
