I know the chairman is aware that community leaders in the four states have been working for 9 years to focus attention on the SPIRIT corridor because of the heavy truck traffic on the route and the important role that transportation plays in economic development. Is the chairman aware that Senators Roberts, Domenici, and I have offered an amendment to the highway bill to designate the SPIRIT corridor as a high priority corridor, but the managers of the bill have stated they prefer to consider it during the conference with the House?
