I would like to ask the chairman of the Finance Committee a question on the application of a provision in the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010. Section 2042 of the bill will allow self-employed persons to deduct the cost of health coverage for themselves, their spouses, and their children who have not reached age 27 by the end of the year for purposes of determining their liability for self-employment taxes. Is it correct that the provision is not intended to affect the determination of earned income for other purposes? For example, earned income for purposes of determining the maximum amount of health insurance premiums a self-employed person may deduct for income tax purposes is not affected by this provision.
