As the Senator for New Mexico, and as the longtime U.S. Representative for IAIA’s home in Santa Fe, I’m honored to be appointed to this important leadership position.

The communities of the Chama Valley – acequia farmers, Land Grant communities, Tribal members, ranchers, and rural families – have cared for their land and water for generations.

I was proud to speak with local leaders who are committed to improving the lives of those in their communities.

The proposed acquisition raises serious questions about necessity, proportionality, medical safety, training, accountability, and constitutional rights.
