The American people deserve better than to be misled by political schemes. After all, in the mid-thirties, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security legislation into law, he warned that this program must never be allowed to become into a political football. My thirteen year old son and I were in the car when the news came on the radio, about President Clinton's desire to raise the minimum wage. Having owned a small business and managed others I understand the problems associated with its raising. I then began to explain this to my son, Jeremy. Suppose you owned a small business. Let's say for this example we use a restaurant and minimum wage is $4.00 per hour. You have five teenagers employed making $4.00 per hour. You as the employer have taken the chance to start a business and give people a chance to earn a fair wage. You are making a living, but not getting rich. I then asked him, the government tells you that you have to pay the new minimum wage of $5.00 per hour.”
