I have been in intensive conversations with colleagues from both sides of the aisle on how to find a path forward and I’m eager to work with my Republican colleagues to find common ground.

Both sides recognize that we need to get something done, and I sincerely hope my Republican colleagues don’t stand in the way.

But taking a chainsaw to all of our foreign assistance programs over a weekend and eliminating 84% of them is not a strategic and thoughtful approach.
