I do not support the Kennedy amendment because I do not support raising the minimum wage, and the reason is as follows: When the minimum wage is raised, workers are priced out of the market. That is the economic reality that seems to be missing, at least so far, from this discussion. When the minimum wage is raised, some workers are priced out of the labor market, and we could have a discussion about how many are priced out of the market, what mechanisms we might have to deal with that fact, but it is an economic fact and the proponents of raising the minimum wage like to dismiss this by saying, well, we have a hard time measuring it, or the economy is large, or we have not been able to measure significant increases in inflation as a result of increasing the minimum wage.
