“today is a great step forward, a new beginning down the path of ending the era of big government. For the first time in 16 years, the American people are getting real, permanent tax relief, the Archer tax cut of 1997. Every American is a winner today. We have sent a message that Washington has to make do with less, so people can keep more of what they earn. I think too often in Washington bureaucrats forget it is not their money to waste. People of America work hard for the money and it is theirs. This is real tax relief. People in every stage of life will receive something, families with children to pay for schooling, for home ownership, for home-based businesses, or to save and invest for retirement. From the family farm to the small business, everyone benefits. Families deserve the freedom our tax relief plan will bring. The $500-per-child tax credit will give parents more freedom in raising their children to be healthy, well-educated, productive adults. I want to commend the Republican leadership and Chairman Archer for an excellent job and a tremendous first step.”
