Mr.Speaker, I rise to join my Democratic colleagues to express my outrage at the ommission of immigration fairness from the Commerce--Justice Appropriation Bill. I am a Caribbean American and I am calling on my colleagues to vote against this bill because it fails to right the wrongs that are being perpetrated against Haitians and other people from our region, Central Americans, Liberians and others. I also think that it is shameful that once again the people of the District of Columbia, the nation's capital and our home away from home, have their budget bogged down with this bill that includes a poison pill that ought to kill it here, but which certainly will be vetoed at the White House. Why can't we do the right thing on this? People of color across the country and around the world cannot seem to get fairness under this Republican Congress. District residents, Caribbean people, Central Americans, Liberians and others deserve fairness just like you and I. Do the right thing. Vote no on this until we get justice in the Commerce, Justice and Appropriations bill.
