I am pleased to learn that even distantly we are reaching a point when we will move ahead and dispose of the remaining amendments and hopefully, pass the defense supplemental defense bill today. It is critical that we get moving on this. I am glad to see that the Senate has finally arrived at the position where they recognize we have to move on this bill. In another time, in another day, I would be persuaded by the arguments made by the Senator from Maryland and the Senator from California. But the facts of the matter are this is a new day, this is a different day. We are going to be deluged... with trying to do something about the United States of America continuing to spend more money than it takes in, however worthy. I must support wholeheartedly the effort to reduce these types of expenditures regardless of how worthy, given the situation that confronts us today.
