I have 70 communities in Nebraska that are facing substantial costs. There is no argument against this, other than that EPA opposes it. I don't hear any scientific argument against it or any public health argument against it. Earlier today, by a voice vote, the Senator from Arkansas and the Senator from Mississippi accepted a $500 million amendment to indemnify farmers in disaster aid--just like that--and it was accepted on a voice vote. Here we are being told, no, we can't accept this amendment. EPA isn't saying we disagree with the science, or we disagree that it is an unreasonable rule in the case of Nebraska, or we disagree with any argument you offer; we are just going to enforce it. I am seeking some sort of remedy other than merely voting this amendment down. Had this occurred earlier in the day, my colleague, Senator Hagel, would be on the floor with me, arguing with much passion in favor of this amendment, that it is reasonable, and that science supports what we are trying to do.

I support those. And I support what the House has done.

Well, first of all, I think you would be having a difficult time retraining men and women to serve in the military had this Congress not made all of the changes that it made since we have been fighting this war for the last 14 years.

Both the Congress and the administration need to follow this up. This is an extraordinary interview, the content is important.
