“You decide what comes up. I heard the chairman of the Finance Committee say that nothing is a higher priority than the restructuring of the IRS. We worked for 5 days on the Ronald Reagan Airport. We debated human cloning for 4 days. You have to decide what you want to schedule and what you think is the most important priority. In regard to the IRS, this education legislation will make our Tax Code more complicated, no question about that. You can't deny that that's the case. Our Tax Code is going to get more complicated, not less complicated. Under current law, the Commissioner is not at the table. The Commissioner doesn't get the opportunity to express a view, whether that view is against what the President wants to do or against what the Congress wants to do, or to just tell us what it is going to cost the taxpayers to comply. The bill passed the House on November 4, and since that time 16 million Americans have been sent collection notices.”
