“The fact is we use twice as much energy now and have cleaner air. Why is that? Because we have clean air regulations that do not work? Of course not. They have succeeded. One of the things we at least ought to take credit for is having marched in the right direction. I think the Senator from Louisiana would not contest that. He is making the case, yes, that is probably true, but we are not interfering with that. So let us understand that what has been done in the name of regulation, in many instances, has been awfully good for this country. We now have started to clean up America's airshed. I think a lot of the kids and families would say thanks for that. That is the right thing. We want to live in a healthier place.”
