Today we will hear the results of the 9/11 Commission, which will describe, after some study and hearings and consideration, what we knew prior to 9/11, prior to the devastating attack that occurred against this country that resulted in the murder of thousands of innocent Americans. There have been past suggestions that some of our law enforcement agencies and others had information indicating a possible attack, and that the information didn't get evaluated or moved up the chain of command. There are all sorts of discussions about what went wrong: What did we know? What could we have done with the information we had in our possession that might have foiled these attacks? It is useful to evaluate all that. I hope this report, which I have not yet read, will advance our knowledge of this situation. Information sharing is essential in the war on terrorism and in securing our country. But there is an alarming lack of information sharing when it comes to our state and local law enforcement officials.
