this issue of immigration is a very passionate issue and raises the passions in this country in a significant way. I understand all of that. I have described often on the floor of the Senate the circumstances of what has brought us to this point. This country we live in is a remarkable country. If you have a globe in front of you, and spin the globe, and take a look at all the land that exists on your globe, you will see there is just one little spot called the United States of America, but it is a very different spot than much of the rest of the world. We have raised incomes in this country, expanded the middle class, created a standard and a scale of living that is pretty unusual and pretty remarkable. Because of that, because we have dramatically expanded the middle class and have created a country that is very different than many other countries on this Earth, there are many who live on this planet who want to come here.
