First of all, Senator Tom Daschle remains in office until the end of his term. Second, it is true that Senator Daschle is the strongest proponent and actually the architect and the author of the legislation that has created country-of-origin labeling. But I say to those in the GOP who look now to repeal the country-of-origin labeling law that they are in for a fight. Repeal is not going to happen just because somebody has a hiccup in the morning and decides they don't like this law. It is the law. We passed it. The Secretary of Agriculture dragged her feet and didn't want to implement it. The omnibus conference legislation last fall actually delayed the implementation time for the law, and now they just want to kill it outright, apparently.
