“in reading this letter, I am reminded of the reasons why it is so important that our nation provide a national agricultural policy framework that not only fosters a family farm system of agriculture, but purposefully sets out to undergird that system and provide the tools that are necessary for our family farmers and ranchers to have the opportunity to be successful. It is for this reason that I am introducing the Cost of Production Safety Net Act. I am pleased to include Senators Daschle, Wellstone, Johnson, Conrad, Harkin and Baucus as cosponsors to my bill. I encourage others to join in this effort and look forward to having a meaningful debate on our nation's agricultural future in the remaining months of this session.”
