“I would observe that the discussion I just had about the Enron Corporation--I think the largest financial supporter of the current occupant of the White House for his first run for the Presidency--it was a corporation that had hundreds of offshore tax-haven subsidiaries. It is also the case that it is not new for us to try to shut these down. As we have tried to shut these down, it is not new, either, to find that the current White House by and large opposes the legislation on the floor of the Senate to shut down these tax scams. I hope that perhaps we can get some support to do what Senator Conrad and I and others believe ought to be done, to shut down these kinds of tax scams.”
