On the recordAugust 2, 1999
Mr. President, $460,000 is way out of bounds. We ought to be trying to get a reasonable amount of support during this price collapse to family-size farms. I come from ag country, but I will not support giving $300,000 to anybody in farm country. We don't need that. That is not what a farm program ought to be about, in disaster help or in regular help, when prices collapse. That is not supporting a family-size farm; that is spending taxpayers' money in support of farm operations far in excess of family farms. That doesn't make any sense to me.
