“let me say as I begin, to my friend from Maine, the work he has done on this issue in Medicare fraud is extraordinary work. During the period between the end of the last session and the beginning of this session, I saw some newspaper reports about Medicare fraud. I bothered to once again review the work he did in the last session, the bill he introduced in the last session on this issue. I hope we make progress on this issue that he is leading on, in this session of the Senate, because I think what he is doing is very important. There is too much fraud. The fact is, we are not detecting enough of it and not prosecuting enough of it vigorously, so I support his efforts and thank him for making those efforts.”
