“Let me add my words of admiration for the work done by Senator Ford. He has been an important part of the Senate for many years and has done some very important things for his country and the Senate will miss very much the service that he has offered. He is in the leadership, has been for many years on the Democratic side of the aisle. But he is fiercely independent. He is smart. He is tough, and he has all the qualities that you look for in a good legislator. He will, in my judgment, for many, many years be remembered as one of the really outstanding legislators in this body, and I feel very fortunate to have been able to serve with him. I just wanted to add those words to the words offered by the Senator from Arizona.”
