This is the heart and soul of trying to shut down a system that creates unbelievable speculation in the economy and poses great danger. I might point out, we should not always assume that we are in safe territory on all of these issues. Colleagues probably saw the news this morning. Last month's Federal budget deficit is $83 billion. Take a look at what the trade deficit is. As I mentioned, in the midst of all this, the biggest financial institutions in the country are batting a thousand. Every single day they make a profit with what I think looks like a rigged system. This bill is very important. I want the Senator from Connecticut to succeed. If we don't pass a financial reform bill, the American people have a right to look at the Congress and say: What on Earth are you there for? What are you doing? But not just any bill, a bill that actually addresses the heart of the issues that caused the near economic collapse of this country.
