On the recordFebruary 26, 1997
I suspect there are a lot of people out there who view us all as a bunch of windbags in blue suits. The fact is, people judge us not on what they think we say or do here on the Senate floor but whether the public policy we create improves their lives, whether at the end of the day we advance this country's interests, whether we have helped them find a way to send their kids to a better school, whether we have helped them find a better job, whether kids have an opportunity to breathe clean air and clean water. Compliments aside, the real task is for us to do the right thing for the future of this country, and that is part of this debate. When you put something in the Constitution, it ought to be right for the future of this country.
