Shaun Donovan: “We cannot afford a return to mindless austerity.”

If there are regulations that stand in the way of doing smart things, cut the red tape.

I recognize that now-Secretary Burwell has set a high bar for OMB Directors going forward, both with her strong leadership and her efforts to maintain solid relationships with Congress.

I want to begin by remembering that last week on the 1-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, our Nation paused to remember all those who lost their homes, their businesses, and, most tragically, lost their lives.

I think we can continue to revise those. What I do not think is acceptable is to say we are simply not going to try to make progress here.
