When the government gives you rights, the government can take them away.
But under war time conditions, people generally get more careless about their civil liberties.
The greatest danger when we accept the notion that the government is supposed to take care of us from cradle to grave and we're supposed to be the policemen of the world is that ultimately it's down at the expense of personal liberty.
