Today, I want to indicate that the package of tax cuts that the Finance Committee passed last night, from this Senator's standpoint, is a very exciting package. In the Finance Committee package, approximately 82 percent of the tax relief is made up of a family tax cut that we Republicans have been promoting for almost 5 years, and education assistance priorities, which we all share.

I think you raise a good point. We have to be careful about the issue you raised. It is a serious one.
It is clear from this example that good things can happen when we open up more areas for drilling in a responsible manner.
I want to remind the committee again, and I will say it to you, Senator Snowe, remember, our package was put together by Democrats and Republicans, so we do not come here starting with one side or the other.
