But I would just raise the issue that for newborn children, most of whom don't have a Social Security number when they are newborn--and this includes children of our military members serving overseas--if they have a severe health problem, then delaying verification, which can be up to 6 weeks for them, can mean the difference between life and death. And I am talking about a situation such as that experienced by Jimmy Kimmel, if you take the time to see his response to what happened with his newborn.
