the United States made a solemn commitment to compensate the nation for the destruction of our land.

That is not consultation. That is not government-to-government consultation.

We ask that you see this legislation for what it is: the first time in the modern era in which Congress would unilaterally renege on the solemn promises made by the United States in an Indian land and water rights settlement.

The Nation respectfully urges that you put an end to this misguided, cynical legislation.
