“First let me say that there are some really exciting opportunities in this bill to move our country forward, to give people hope and confidence that this Government finally, after many years of inaction and negligence, is ready to act and try to be as focused as possible on creating and sustaining jobs, strengthening our financial sector, and thawing the capital markets, not just for what it means to Americans but for the world. A group of us have been trying through the week to reach out to Members on the other side and to live up to the call of the new President to try to build this bill from the center, to try to build common ground, to open dialog, to try to reach some accommodation so we can do this together. I have found in my time in the Senate that some of the best things that have been accomplished have been accomplished in that way.”
