“This year alone, prescription drug costs are expected to rise by 19 percent. Today, this morning, in New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Arizona, seniors are getting on a bus--in the case of Arizona, to drive to Mexico; in the case of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and New York, to go to Canada--to buy their prescription drugs. Most times these prescription drugs are fine. Most times they are exactly what they are advertised to be. But sometimes they are not. That is because these seniors who are having to get on the bus to go to Canada or Mexico simply cannot afford to go to their local druggist and get the prescription drugs that they very badly need--many cases in lifesaving situations. Skyrocketing health care costs have left many businesses struggling to provide coverage for their employees and an increasing number of Americans without any health insurance. Consequently, access to affordable prescription drugs represents one of the most serious problems facing our Nation's health care system today.”
