The continued claims from the other side that there are cuts in Medicare and Medicaid are no more true this year than they were last year. My friend from New Jersey, I believe, knows that I spent untold hours in hospitals during the debate on Medicare last year. There was no thought among the hospital administrators at the conclusion of that period of time that any hospitals were going to close anywhere in New Jersey, and seniors would expect the same level of benefits that they had received before. It is true that the rate of growth in the program would have been reduced somewhat, but there was not a single penny of cuts in that budget, nor is there in this.
