“As a parent of five children who rely on public education for hope and opportunity, that kind of political gamesmanship breaks my heart, Mr. Speaker. I hope that the children of America and those kids who are in school who count on us to focus in a serious way on education can see this silly amendment defeated for its purposes, for its intent, and for the fallacies that it contains. And there are several. It is a very confining amendment that restricts school board members and States as to how they can spend Federal education dollars. So if they are in the business, Mr. Speaker, of constraining and restricting and narrowing the scope for these Federal dollars, then this is an amendment for them. But for the rest of us who hope that these dollars can be spent on the priorities that exist in schools across the country, this would be an amendment to oppose.”
