Bill Bennett: I say once again, if these tax cuts are going to benefit the wealthy, the wealthy have to have awfully big families…

I say once again, if these tax cuts are going to benefit the wealthy, the wealthy have to have awfully big families because the tax cut is limited to $500 per child and I do not know anybody who is really wealthy who is going to make any money off of this at $500 per child. The people who need this are the people who have low incomes and big families. Those are the people in my State who are getting a little tired of the rhetoric that this is a tax cut for the wealthy. I have heard the statement made on the floor that this is going to mean $10,000 in tax cuts to some people. They have to have an awful lot of kids to get $10,000 at $500 per child. Second, "slash and burn" is a phrase that was used, on the amount of money to be spent on Medicare; the incredible cuts.

If Herman Cain cannot stand up to these charges, if he refuses to, then he should step out of the race. A man big enough to run for president should be big enough to have a full and candid press conference on all of this.
