“I remember the original debate on this issue when the Senator from California talked about the very few numbers of procedures and insisted that medical personnel--doctors--were solidly in favor of allowing these things to continue. I ask the Senator if he has seen the article that appeared in the Wall Street Journal a few days ago, where a group of doctors said it is time to stop listening to the politicians, stop listening to the special interest groups, and let the doctors speak. And they then said, ``We know the vast majority of these procedures are done for elective purposes only and that the health of the mother is, in fact, never in danger.'' I ask the Senator if he is familiar with that presentation and if my memory of it is correct?”
