I will do my best to do it in a manner that is not disagreeable either to him or to others who are in support of this amendment. Let us understand, of course, the Fair Labor Standards Act is one of the most important protections American workers have. We all agree on that. But these provisions have not been updated, some for as long as 50 years. Some kind of clear updating is essential. My problem with the Senator's amendment is with a very broad brush and strong ax he cuts out a large chunk of the pages that have been made and says those things that are in place are going to stay in place. We are not going to allow any changes in these areas. His amendment is relatively short but very powerful in its impact on the overall bill. The reactions have been unanimous--No.…
