“Much that has been said, in my opinion, has more to do with the fact this is an election year than it does with the situation facing the economy. I do not wish to address the specifics of the budget resolution because I think it is more important we lay down the background of the economy and what is really happening in the economy. I will do my best to keep it out of the realm of politics, keep it out of the realm of the rhetoric of this election, and stay as close as I can to statistics and facts so we can understand exactly what is happening in the economy and where the economy is headed. The basis and sources I have used in this situation have in every case been from outside groups. This is not the Republican Policy Committee or any other partisan group that has come up with these statistics.”
