If we take a look at the Hudson plant situation, over 20 million pounds of beef was recalled by the company because it was determined that this meat was contaminated with the deadly E. coli virus. In response, we have a bill sent up to the Hill here last week by Secretary of Agriculture Mr. Glickman, who wants more authority to inspect and take action against meat and poultry factories. So if we take a look at what is going on here in this country, we are demanding more authority by the Secretary of Agriculture because he is concerned about the safety and security of our Nation's food supply. But what we are saying here tonight is that the concern for safety and security of our Nation's food supply must extend to NAFTA and to any other fast track agreement that we may be presented with.
