This amendment requires an additional report by NAS before the Administrator uses the authority created by the amendment to set standards at other than the feasible level for noncarcinogens. As with previous reports, we would expect the National Academy of Sciences to prescribe scientifically sound criteria for selecting contaminant levels under this new authority. The amendment authorized $1 million to fund the study, which should be completed within 3 years of enactment.
