“I understand and share the concerns expressed by Senator Kerry and Senator Snowe. I agree that owners and renters should receive the same tax treatment for improvements. There are many small businesses in Montana in which the owners would like to make improvements. And this provision would be extremely helpful. Just this week, I received an e-mail message from Scott Brown, the owner of The Base Camp in Helena, MT. Scott told me how this provision would help him and other Montana retailers to be more competitive. I will continue to work with my colleagues to find additional opportunities to address this important provision.”
