the Rev. Jesse Jackson is truly one of America's unsung heroes, and today I stand before you to sing his praises. For many years, conservatives have held Jesse Jackson up as the poster child for liberal causes. They have chastised him and demonized him. They have cursed him and mocked him. And at the same time they wear their version of Christian values on their lapels, they look down on everyone that does not conform to their narrowly interpreted set of rules. However, if ever there was a person who exemplified the morals and the values espoused by Christ, that person is the Rev. Jesse Jackson. In the Book of Matthew, Chapter 5, our Savior, Jesus Christ tells us which values will be looked upon favorably in the kingdom of Heaven. Some of the ones he mentions who will be blessed are: "The poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." The Rev. Jackson has dedicated his life to representing the most marginalized, disenfranchised members of American society.
