“I want to talk about an amazing thing that happened on Saturday, January 13, in Springfield, MO. Private citizens, with the support and encouragement of local institutions, organized the first ever Good Community Fair--an opportunity for concerned citizens to meet with leaders of dozens of private community groups to find out how volunteering can make our community a better place. To the pleasant surprise of organizers more than 7,000 men, women, and children showed up at the Findlay Student Center on the campus of Drury College to find out how and where they could volunteer to do their part to make their hometown a better place, to help it be a good community. This was one of the most impressive spontaneous outpourings of good will it has ever been my privilege to witness.”
