Under the Tariff Act, importers of goods are supposed to exercise reasonable care and take the necessary steps to make sure that merchandise that they are importing into the country has not been--does not run afoul, of course, of any U.S. laws and does not turn on, rely on abused forced labor.
Hawley emphasizes the responsibility of importers to avoid forced labor in their supply chains.
